		| Alfred E. Stearns of the Class of 1894 signed the flyleaf to his book An Amherst
Boyhood to his friend Herman Cheney, also '94, noting that Mr. Cheney "needs no introduction
to most of the scenes and characters mentioned in this book." Stearns was the grandson
of President William A. Stearns, and son of William F. Stearns; Stearns Hall was named in
honor of their three generations' contributions to the school.
