Boyden House Receipt

This receipt from William Dickinson, Amherst College Treasurer, makes note of one hundred dollars received from Wm. P. Hardy for rent of Boyden House for a year from April 1884 to April 1885. Boyden House was a College-run boarding house located in the present location of Kirby Theater. Before construction of the theater in 1938, the house as moved to a College-owned lot at 58 Woodside Avenue. The man from whom the money was received, William P. Hardy, was Edwin's cousin, also born in Nelson, NH, ten months younger than Edwin and also a member of the Class of 1887. He spent only 1883-1884 at Amherst, though, and then finished his schooling at Dartmouth, graduating in 1887.
