Alumni Gymnasium

The campaign to create a new gymnasium began in 1934 with a fundraising project described in great detail by President King in "The Consecrated Eminence," as he was the architect of the campaign. After moving a large house on South Pleasant Street to 22 Hitchcock Road and awarding a contract to Charles T. Wills of New York, construction began in 1935. The gym opened in September of 1936 (King, 236).

The gymnasium is in use to this day, not only for athletic practice and events, but also for concerts, such as Natalie Merchant in 1994 and Ladysmith Black Mambazo in 1997.
